THE FEEHILY FAMILY OF WEST ROXBURY NEEDS YOUR HELP!
Tim Feehily (originally from Co. Roscommon) and Diane (nee McCarthy) born and raised in West Roxbury have 3 children aged 16, 15 and 12.
Catherine, the oldest, was born prematurely at 26 weeks, she had a large rare tumor on her back that had to be removed. She had several surgeries, which resulted in her being in and out of the hospital for most of her first year. As a result of the antibiotics needed to treat her, Catherine is profoundly deaf and at age 5 it was discovered that she was autistic and in addition has learning disabilities.
Mark was born healthy in 1998, at age 3 he was diagnosed with Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy. Recently Mark's disease has been progressing to the point where his muscles are weakening significantly and soon he will need a wheelchair to get around. As the disease progresses, more and more care and therapy will be needed. Mark is an extremely resilient young man and everyday he gets up and fights this horrible progression of a disease that will rob him of the use of every muscle in his body.
Over the years caring for Catherine and Mark has put the family under enormous stress from both a financial and emotional standpoint. Diane and Tim work round the clock caring for their young family. Both children require frequent specialized help that is taking up more time and money as the children get older. These circumstances have particularly limited the time that Diane can work which adds more pressure to this already overburdened family.
We hope this benefit will raise enough money to at the least help alleviate some of their burden and be of assistance with any future concerns about the increasing costs of caring for their children. Some of the impending requirements for the care of these children are securing a handicapped accessible van, and installation of a chair lift, ramps and other structural alterations to their home so the children will be able to continue to live there safely and freely with their family.
The Feehily Family are faced with more challenges than most of us would ever see in a lifetime. Join us in showing them we care and want to help in their time of need.
